Taxon search

For the taxon search, two fields are provided. In the name field, you can type a name or part of a name, doesn't matter which rank or status the name has.

Then, you can narrow your search to a certain (zoo-) geographical region. As a result of this search, you receive a list of names matching your query. Now, select a name for which you want to receive more information and you will receive a taxon report.

How to read the taxon report?

Results of a taxon search are presented in a report. In that report, the word you were searching for is highlighted in red.

The head of the report provides some statistical information about the number of names in the family group, genus group and species group listed in the report. The numbers in parentheses refer to the numbers of synonyms in each of the three categories.

Following is presented part of the taxon report for the search option "Anarpia". The individual parts of the report are explained in the text to the right.

The three quality levels in GlobIZ

Depending on the quality of data, we distinguished three levels for data edited in GlobIZ:

Low level (white cross on red ground). The lowest quality level is applied to names which are not linked to author and year of original description, and therefore these records are also not linked to a literature reference. The information for such records has been taken from secondary sources and is included into the database in order to indicate the number of species included in a certain genus.

Medium level (white exclamation mark on blue ground). The medium quality level is applied to names for which author and year of original description are indicated and these records are linked to a literature reference. However, the information is taken from secondary sources only and not verified by us using the original publications.

High level (white checkmark on green ground). The high quality level is applied to names for which author and year of original description are indicated and these records are linked to a literature reference. The information has been verified by us using the original publications.

Literature search

You can also search for literature, based on author name(-s) or key words. In each of the search fields, you can type in entire words or part of the words. Also, you can type more than one word, indicating the space between the words by the sign "%".

As a result of your search, you receive a list of references.
